A taste of France on the Japanese island of Hokkaido is what you’ll find at The Barn, a French alpine fusion restaurant open since 2010 in Niseko. Housed inside a traditional Japanese barn updated with contemporary touches, this light and airy restaurant attracts both Japanese visitors and tourists to the area with its classic bistro feel allowing diners to imagine they’ve teleported to Paris for one night only.

On the top floor, the bar is stocked with refreshing concoctions from vin chaud in the winter to cocktails for the summer. Dinner is served in the ground-floor restaurant with quality, unpretentious food. The chefs expertly juggle local ingredients from Hokkaido with quality French ingredients for an exquisite mix. The briefest of looks at the menu is sure to whet your appetite, with foie gras sushi, Niseko sake marinated mussels as well as a wagyu beef gratin. It is the height of French fine dining in the heart of Japan.
