Japan Food Diaries, the Instagram Account that Spotlights Japan’s Best Restaurants
View this post on Instagram
It’s no secret that Instagram is the favoured hideout of foodie-photographers, with thousands of appetising shots of meals posted every day. One such account, Japan Food Diaries, run by an anonymous ex-pat, is a fine example, scouring the streets of Tokyo and the rest of Japan in the name of finding the best local eateries.
Almost every photo is accompanied with a small comment on the featured restaurant. Critiques range from notes on the service, the quality of the dishes or the price of the food. There is something for everyone; ice cream, sushi or even fish semen (shirako). The diversity of Japanese cuisine is well represented, but doesn’t limit the odd appearance of international dishes.
Having said this, it’s not every day that one gets to try codfish semen, so you might as well start with ticking that of the list, before swiftly moving onto another unusual delicacy… Natto.
