A Basketball Court House
The architects at Koizumi Sekkei constructed a family home around an enormous indoor basketball court.

Court House is a minimalist house located in the city of Shizuoka, at the foot of Mount Fuji. Designed in 2015 by architects at the firm Koizumi Sekkei, it covers a surface area of 132 m2. Just by looking at the façade, one would never imagine that behind the doors lies a house that’s entirely built around an indoor basketball court.
Layout inspired by gymnasiums
The designers wanted to create a previously unseen relationship between an indoor basketball court and a more traditional living space. To do this, they took inspiration from gymnasium layouts, and thus this unique building was born.
The living room, bedrooms, and other living spaces lie around the court in the centre. Breathing new life into construction, the latter is also designed to be multifunctional, with the possibility of transforming into a library. It’s a house for future champions.
